10 Things That Make Me Terribly Happy About Summer


  1. THE BIKE PARK, I can’t even begin to tell you how good this season has been. (But I will, stay tuned)
  2. Samurai sushi take out, eaten by the lake, talking until the mosquitos eat us alive.
  3. Pinafores!
  4. Sitting on balconies, listening to Henri’s tunes and drinking wine with the best roommates.
  5. Swimming in lakes of varying temperatures (glacier water is damn cold people!)
  6. Warm evenings sitting at Tapleys patio, before hectic nights out.
  7. Dancing. So much dancing! (In clubs, at work, at home, walking down the street)
  8. Riding into work as the sun rises over the mountains.
  9. Giggling with Sybil and we slowly die of heatstroke in the Penthouse Sweatbox
  10. The people. My summer people made it so much better than I ever thought it could be.

  2. Mocha breaks on the mountain
  3. Getting excited by a warm day of 0 degrees
  4. Red wine by fireplaces in cozy pubs
  5. Waking up to a beautiful bluebird day
  6. When the Highway closes and the village stays quiet 😉
  7. Reading all the books under the covers, watching the snowfall
  8. Rosy cheeks
  9. Snowboarding at least twice a week, we are SO LUCKY
  10. Giggling at the cutest little kids, all bundled up and ready for their ski lessons


Good Morning!

Mornings around here are never the same.. Andrew and I don’t always have the same days off, we work different shifts everyday, head up the mountain some mornings, sleep in until 8:30 others (that’s quite late for us!).

When I get a morning off though, and don’t pick up my snowboard, I have a little bit of a routine. I’ll usually wake up around 7 am, grab half a banana and flick through instagram (I KNOW, contradicting my last post – but I love checking in with what’s happening back home!).


I workout for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the day. I’ve been following these ladies for a couple of years now, and it’s so nice having a little guide to follow with their Daily Workout.

Then, it’s the best time of the day… BREAKFAST AND COFFFFFEEEEEEE. I’ll grab a bowl of oats, put on a Spotify playlist (currently loving Happy Folk) and sit down to read over a few blogs. Cup of Jo and Love Taza are favourites of mine.

If I have time, I’ll do some yoga (with Adriene) before getting ready for work. As the days are getting warmer, I can start getting out for walks and hopefully runs again once the ice melts and there’s a much smaller chance of me stacking it and falling on my face.

Not every morning is the same, and I love that about living here, but when I get this routine in, I feel good!

10 Things That Make Me Terribly Happy About Summer

Canadian edition, as my seasons this year have been all over the place. But, nevertheless..


  1. Learning how beautiful lakes are, particularly glacier fed ones.
  2. Riding bikes, all day erry day. Anywhere and everywhere!
  3. Every weekend brings a new event to Whistler, from Crankworx to Wanderlust to the free outdoor concert series
  4. Smoothies and overnight oats for breakfast
  5. Grabbing the most delicious and healthy pad thai from the Farmers Markets
  6. The sun staying up until late, giving us long days to fill with activities
  7. Temperatures never reaching above 32 degrees
  8. Cider and beer on our front porch
  9. Menchies frozen yoghurt (I found a Tutti Frutti replacement, hallelujah!)
  10. Denim shorts and a singlet is considered appropriate attire almost everywhere in town

Thanks for an awesome summer Whistler, looking forward to next year already.

This Week…

I am doing … a lot of work, and a lot of exercise.

I am feeling … tired, but content.

I am craving … a weekend!

I am looking forward to … finally getting to see some of the crankworx action.

I am eating … way too many Purebread leftovers.

I am listening to … Folk & Friends on spotify.

I am watching … Scandal – I’m sooo late to the party, but I cannot get enough Olivia Pope in my life!

I am missing … the girls, always.

I am hating … not being able to get to the bike park.

I am loving … the sunshine in Whistler. This week is heaven on earth, I just need to stop working so much and enjoy it!

Confidence is Key

Hello hello, welcome to my brain. There’s a lot of craziness up in here, and a lot I can’t control.

I’m glad you did because today I’d like to talk about something very important.
Or my lack there of.

You see, this is something I’ve been struggling with lately, and I thought – maybe I’m not the only one.
There are plenty of articles that I read daily that include “being confident” as a step towards a bigger goal, such as being a happier person or performing better at work. However, none of them go into detail about how to actually be confident. It seems like unless you were born with this particular trait, then it’s just bad luck for you and come again soon please.

There are plenty of people who have natural confidence; the extroverts of the world. My boyfriend being one of them. Nothing seems to phase them, they give anything a go and more often than not, excel at whatever they’re trying out [I am generalisng here, bear with me]. This is the view from the introvert’s perspective. In reality confident people still suffer from fear and anxiety, just on a smaller scale, and manage to overcome these feelings in order to achieve what they set out to do.

BUT HOW?! is the question I have been asking myself, pretty much since the day I met Andrew. How can he be so calm, chilled out, but ready for anything? How does he not stress out and overthink everything to the point of giving up?
Well, for starters, he is male. I’m generalising again, and there are always exceptions, but it seems that women tend to think about things a lot more than men. We’re the stressers, the worriers, the over-thinkers and over-analysers. Which can make things a little difficult.

The goal I’m having a hard time with at the moment is riding. I have ridden my bike a couple of times a week for as long as I can remember. I love it, and always have. As I’m getting fitter and my skills are improving I want to push myself. So, I started riding to work. I began on the bike path, and worked my way up to back streets, and finally main roads. I was on fire, and nothing could touch me.
Until one very chilly, frosty morning when I took a short cut through a park, cut around the “slow down” barriers, slid on the frozen grass and came off the bike. I didn’t get hurt – I had a couple of grazes and some very cold legs, but it shook my confidence.
Andrew has been taking me out Mountain biking, which begun really well – until it didn’t anymore. I get in my head too much, over think and let the fear of coming off the bike control the whole ride. Which has been horrible for both of us, what was meant to be something Andrew could share with me has turned into this stressful outing where I feel bad for not performing and he feels guilty for pushing me.

So, how do you get out of this vicious cycle? [pardon the pun]
For me, the following things have really helped:

  1. Yoga [in particular yogi breathing]
  2. Remembering why I started
  3. Asking myself if I really enjoy this
  4. Having solo time [I got out on my bike in the bush last week, alone. Changed my whole perspective]
  5. Making goals [even if it’s simple things, like ‘I’m going to really enjoy myself this time’]
  6. Admitting mistakes [this is HUGE, and so powerful]
  7. Accepting compliments [because then you start to believe them]

I think this is what life’s really all about. There’s no big mystery, it’s pretty simple; do what you enjoy doing, with the people you love spending time with.
Push your comfort zone, but understand where your boundaries are.
Confidence will build over time, as long as you are doing what you love and having FUN.
